Maternity, breastfeeding and the new family

Unfortunately, we do not provide this course in English due to lack of participants. You can talk to a midwife at our clinic regarding the same topics if you want to. Book an appointment here.

The return from the hospital after the birth of a first child will take place after three days. For those who have given birth before, it will be after two days.

The postnatal period (6–8 weeks after birth) is a vulnerable period after the pregnancy and the birth. Many physical and mental changes occur during this period. Milk production will start and many have questions related to breastfeeding and the new baby once they’re back home.

Postnatal and breastfeeding courses can help make new parents feel more confident when they return home and in the weeks to come. They can make you learn about how to get to know the baby and interpret the baby’s signals. The baby can never be too spoiled when it comes to intimacy and caregiving!

The midwives who give the course have further education in breastfeeding and breastfeeding guidance, and will review these topics during the course:

  • The new life situationPar 2
  • The relationship
  • Skin to skin
  • Importance of the partner
  • The woman’s body during delivery
  • The new-born baby
  • Practical information about the baby and what happens right after birth
  • Information and guidance
  • Caesarean section (there are about 20% planned and acute caesarean sections)
  • Maternity ward vs. maternity hotel
  • Breastfeeding
  • Contraception and breastfeeding

Knowledge about breastfeeding technology and new-borns’ need for nutrition is important for having a sense of safety and mastering when returning home.

We recommend attending the course between pregnancy week 28 and 36.
